Micro-Needling
Microneedling, also known as skin needling or collagen induction therapy, is a procedure using a handheld device covered with tiny, shallow needles which are energized with radio frequency. The needles poke holes in the skin's surface. Those holes cause a 'micro injury' that prompts skin to stimulate collagen production, filling in fine lines, plumping the skin and contributing to a younger look. It helps combat acne scars, wrinkles or stretch marks and works great for sunken areas on the skin caused by acne, discoloration and general skin rejuvenation.
What to expect during Microneedling?
First, a numbing cream is applied first to the skin to stay comfortable during the procedure. Then the needles are moved across the skin using the handheld device. The process typically takes less than 30 minutes, and afterward, your skin can be somewhat red, similar to a sunburn.
It takes only a couple of days for skin to look fairly normal, but results gradually become apparent. Natural collagen growth happens over weeks and months, so it isn't an instant fix, but your skin will be much improved over the long term. Depending on the skin areas treated and what you're trying to achieve, somewhere between three and six microneedling treatments are typically required for optimal results. For deep wrinkles, stretch marks, sever sun damage or scarring, six or more microneedling treatments may be needed. And to ensure your skin's safety, treatments are usually spaced out three weeks to a month apart.
